The two basic categories of Knitted Fabrics are :
Filling (sometimes called weft) Knits
Warp Knits
Warp Knitted Fabrics are formed by yarns that travel the length (warp direction) of the textile, Generally filling knits have more stretch in the cross-wise direction than the lengthwise direction. Warp knits are characteristically more stable in all directions than filling knits. Warp knits are less stretchy than weft knits, more dimensionally stable than weft knits, more readily imitates hands and appearance of wovens, run and snag resistant and varies from light to heavy and thin to thick.
Warp Knitted Fabrics include : Raschel (Powernet and some waffle - surface knit thermal underwear fabrics) and Tricot knits (slinky nightgown fabric).
